Accused Parents Seek Death Penalty for Son in Ujjain Rape Case, Struggle with Belief

Accused Parents Seek Death Penalty for Son in Ujjain Rape Case, Struggle with Belief: Bharat Soni’s father, the accused in the Ujjain rape case, expressed his stance that if his son is proven guilty, he should face immediate execution. However, he holds hope for his son’s release if he is found innocent.

In an emotional interview father of the accused in the Ujjain rape case tearfully called for the death penalty if his son is proven guilty of the heinous crime. He acknowledged that if his son is found innocent, he should have the opportunity to reclaim his place in society.

Bharat Soni, employed as an auto-rickshaw driver, stands as the primary suspect in the sexual assault case involving a 12-year-old girl discovered in distress on the streets of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on September 25. The police report additionally disclosed that the minor was dealing with mental instability. Authorities apprehended the auto driver after he was seen driving through the city with the victim, further solidifying their case due to the presence of blood stains on the passenger seat of his auto. Ujjain SP Sachin Sharma, in an interview revealed that the girl, originally from Satna and a class 8 student, had fled her home due to emotional distress.

The parents are urging for consequences for their accused son but are grappling with disbelief.
“He is undeserving of a place in our society. He forfeits that right. He should face the gallows,” expressed the father, struggling to hold back his tears. “But if my son is truly innocent, then I place my trust in both God and the judicial system, believing he will regain his freedom.”

The father also appeared to grapple with disbelief regarding his son’s actions, suggesting that while his son might have made mistakes, he couldn’t entirely accept the accusations. He stated, “I find it difficult to believe that he committed any wrongdoing with the girl. Perhaps he assisted the wrongdoers, perhaps he erred in some way, but only he knows if he was involved in the assault.”

His mother also maintained her belief in her son’s innocence but remained open to the possibility of punishment if he were proven guilty. She expressed, “I cannot fathom that he could commit such an act. Numerous others are implicated in this. My son hasn’t been involved in anything like this.”

Reports indicate that the Madhya Pradesh administration is investigating the accused’s potential illegal properties, with the possibility of his house being demolished if found unlawful, a fact that the father was unaware of until Republic informed him.

“Where can we possibly go? No one in my family has ever had a stable job; we are all laborers. Even my father spent his life and passed away in the slums. I have granddaughters and daughters to think about. Where could we find shelter?” the father questioned, tears streaming down his face. He also appealed to the government for assistance in securing an alternative residence if his current home is indeed demolished.
