CAT 2023 Update: IIM Bangalore Alters 2024 Admission Policy Introduces 40% Weightage for Personal Interviews, IIMB maintains the existing weightage for CAT 2023 scores while reintroducing the importance of graduate marks. Here’s what’s different.

NEW DELHI: The prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore has updated its admission policy for its flagship postgraduate program, with alterations in the emphasis on previous academic achievements.

IIMB follows a two-phase selection procedure. In the initial phase, all eligible candidates who take the Common Admission Test (CAT 2023) are assessed to identify those who will be invited for a personal interview (PI). Furthermore, candidates chosen for the personal interview will also participate in a Writing Ability Test (WAT) administered by the institute.

Under the revised admission policy, the importance of the personal interview (PI) has been elevated from 35% to 40% this year, making it a pivotal element in the admissions procedure.

Furthermore, in the initial shortlisting phase, the weightage for Class 10 and Class 12 marks has been reduced from 15% to 10% each. In the ultimate selection phase, the weightage for Class 10 and Class 12 marks has been further reduced, now standing at 5%.

The CAT 2023 examination is scheduled for November 26, 2023. As per the CAT 2023 convenor, Sanjeet Singh of IIM Lucknow, a total of 3.3 lakh students have registered for the exam this year.

CAT 2023 Exam: IIM Bangalore Admission Criteria
The top 10 candidates with the highest scores in IIM CAT 2023, along with their adjusted bachelor’s scores and those from professional courses such as chartered accountancy, are granted automatic eligibility for the WAT-PI round.

IIMB Shortlisting Process

IIM Bangalore has reintroduced the consideration of graduation marks in both the selection and final phases of MBA admissions. Graduation marks will now carry a 10% weightage in the selection phase and a 5% weightage in the final phase, a component that was omitted in the 2022 admission policy.

According to the document, “The selection criteria and weightings assigned to different factors are derived from data from prior admission cycles, along with input from the IIMB faculty and other key stakeholders.”

The weightage for other components, such as CAT 2023 scores, gender diversity, writing ability test, and work experience, will remain unchanged from the previous year. In the final phase, the 25 points for CAT will be distributed based on performance in each of the three sections of the exam. Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC) will account for 8.75 points, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) for 10 points, and Quantitative Aptitude (QA) for 6.25 points. In summary, the CAT cut-off requirement remains at the 85th percentile for admission to IIMB.
