Congress demands the imposition of President’s rule in Bengal following the ED attack

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, overseeing West Bengal, stated that the state is currently facing a breakdown in law and order.

In Kolkata, the schism within the INDIA bloc in West Bengal seemed to deepen on Friday, with Congress calling for the imposition of President’s rule in the Mamata Banerjee-led state. This sharp statement, highlighting increasing discord between the two INDIA allies aiming to collectively counter the BJP in the 2024 general elections, was triggered by the assault on Enforcement Directorate officials by TMC supporters.

Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, overseeing West Bengal, expressed concern about the deteriorating law and order in the state, stating that it would not be surprising if officials were to face fatal incidents in the TMC-ruled region.

Following the assault by the ruling government’s goons on ED officials, it is evident that law and order have collapsed in the state. Today’s injuries could escalate to tomorrow’s fatalities. “Such an occurrence wouldn’t surprise me,” stated Adhir Ranjan Choudhary. He added, “We insist on the immediate imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal.” In response, Trinamool’s retort was equally cutting.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh accused Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of being a BJP agent.

On Thursday night, an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team faced an attack, and their vehicles were damaged in Sandeshkhali village, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, during a raid on the residence of block-level leaders from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging an NIA probe into the incident.

TMC MP Santanu Sen claimed that it was the federal agency that incited the locals. “The officers of the Central investigation agency, surrounded by the Central forces, provoked the local people, leading to continuous counter reactions,” he said.

On Thursday, Adhir Ranjan Choudhury asserted that the TMC is only willing to concede two seats in Bengal for this year’s Lok Sabha polls.

Mamata Banerjee’s true intentions are revealed. They claim to offer two seats (to Congress) in West Bengal, but those seats already have Congress MPs. “We won these seats by defeating Mamata Banerjee and the BJP. What favor are they doing for us?” questioned Adhir Ranjan Choudhury. He expressed skepticism, stating, “Who will trust Mamata Banerjee? It is Mamata who needs Congress to win… Congress can fight and win more seats independently. We will demonstrate. We don’t need to rely on Mamata’s pity for these two seats.”

TMC accused Chowdhury of acting like a BJP representative. “In the 2021 Assembly polls, TMC fought independently, while Adhir Chowdhury’s party allied with CPM and secured zero seats. What is he talking about? TMC can confront the BJP alone, but for the sake of the INDIA alliance, Mamata Banerjee is wholeheartedly cooperating. However, Congress is engaging in a double-faced game,” stated a TMC spokesperson.

TMC, led by Banerjee, secured 22 seats, while the BJP won 18 seats in the recent elections. Mamata Banerjee emphasized to her party members that only the TMC had the capability to defeat the BJP in Bengal.
