Day 16 for Ranbir Kapoor’s film reach ₹816 crore.

On day 16, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action-packed film “Animal,” starring Ranbir Kapoor, stylishly joins the ₹800 crore club in global box office collections.

On day 16 of its global release, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial venture, starring Ranbir Kapoor and featuring Bobby Deol as the antagonist, achieves a milestone by breaking records in Australia and Canada. Surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan,” it secures the top spot in both markets. Additionally, on Sunday, the filmmakers proudly declared that the movie has crossed the ₹800 crore mark in worldwide gross collections.

In just 16 days since its December 1 release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, “Animal,” starring Ranbir Kapoor along with Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, and Shakti Kapoor, has impressively amassed a global box office collection of ₹816.3 crore. The film’s success extends beyond the US, resonating strongly in Canada and Australia as well.

According to @Southwoodoffl and film trade analyst @HetTanna56, “Animal” has claimed the title of the highest-grossing Indian film in Canada and Australia, surpassing the numbers of “Pathaan.”

Controversy surrounding “Animal”

Despite controversial themes and mixed-to-negative reviews, “Animal” defies expectations, emerging as Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest-ever film. Surprisingly, with a runtime of nearly three-and-a-half hours and an adult rating, it achieves the status of the highest-grossing A-rated Indian film to date.

Critics have taken issue with the movie’s glorification of toxic masculinity and the dismissive portrayal of its lead characters’ misogynistic behavior. Notably, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga faced similar criticism for his treatment of these themes in his previous works, such as the Telugu film “Arjun Reddy” (2017) and its Hindi remake, “Kabir Singh” (2019).

“Animal” delves into the toxic dynamics of a father-son relationship, with Anil Kapoor portraying the emotionally distant father, Balbir Singh, and Ranbir Kapoor embodying the role of the traumatized and enraged son, Ranvijay Singh aka Vijay. Bobby Deol takes on the role of the menacing antagonist, Abrar Haque, while Rashmika Mandanna portrays Geetanjali Iyengar, Vijay’s wife. The film also features supporting roles from Triptii Dimri, Charu Shankar, Babloo Prithiveeraj, Shakti Kapoor, Madhu Raja, Suresh Oberoi, and Siddhant Karnick.
