Election Commission has issued a notice to the Karnataka government led by the Congress party for placing advertisements in Telangana

The Election Commission has issued a notice to the Karnataka government, led by the Congress party, for breaching the Model Code of Conduct by placing government advertisements in Telangana.

On Monday, the Election Commission issued a notice to the Congress-led Karnataka government, addressing allegations of a model code of conduct violation due to government ads being placed in Telangana. The poll panel stated that both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) raised concerns about Karnataka’s government publishing ads in Hyderabad newspapers. Upon examination of records, the election commission confirmed that neither approval was granted nor any pending application from Karnataka for such a decision was found.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has instructed the Telangana government to halt Rythu Bandhu disbursements until the conclusion of the elections. The EC notification strongly condemns the Karnataka government’s dissemination of advertisements in Telangana newspapers, citing a blatant violation of the Commission’s directives. Karnataka has been given until November 28 to provide an explanation for the alleged model code of conduct breach. Furthermore, the EC has mandated the immediate cessation of such advertisements in Telangana and demands an explanation from the Siddaramaiah government regarding the lack of disciplinary action against the secretary-in-charge of the Department of Information and Public Relations for these violations of the poll code.
