NEET PG 2023 Cut-off Update

NEET PG 2023 Cut-off Update: The Health Ministry has officially approved the elimination of the qualifying percentile requirement to ‘zero.’

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has formally requested the National Medical Commission (NMC) to lower the 2023 National Eligibility Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) cut-off score to “zero” for all categories. This reduction was granted by the competent authority following a thorough review of the ministry’s recommendation.

“I am writing to address the subject mentioned above and to inform you that the proposal to lower the qualifying percentile for postgraduate courses in 2023 (NEET PG 2023) has been thoroughly reviewed within the ministry. I am pleased to convey that the competent authority has approved the reduction of the qualifying percentile for NEET PG 2023 to ‘zero’ for all categories,” stated Sunil Kumar Gupta, Under Secretary.

In response to the decision, Rohan Krishnan, Chairman of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), expressed his views, stating that reducing the qualifying percentile to zero implies that every candidate who participated in NEET PG 2023 can now seek admission to medical programs. He deemed this decision highly unfavorable and strongly criticized it, saying, “Today, merit has been compromised. This is indeed a concerning development,” Krishnan emphasized.

He urged organizations employing such strategies to secure medical admissions for their relatives to consider the consequences before advocating for such changes. The doctor encouraged others to refrain from supporting such entities.

Krishnan also remarked that this decision by the government enables private medical colleges to profit financially. He emphasized his intention to vehemently oppose this decision.

Medical associations like the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the United Doctors’ Front Association (UDFA) had lobbied the NMC to lower the qualifying cutoff for the NEET PG 2023 exam, aiming to facilitate the inclusion of a larger number of candidates in the NEET PG 2023 counseling process.
